Common Sense Prevails! Windows 7 E is Gone

In a week that has been rather unpleasant for me personally, a bit of professional news crept out last night that has turned my frown upside down for a few moments.  Word has come from Microsoft that the EU attempt-pleasing Windows 7 E is no more.  The version of Windows 7 that will be sold in Europe will be the non-neutered, full fat version that will be available in the rest of the world.  Want to upgrade from Vista?  Yes you can!

Any IT person worth his or her salt will always try and guide you away from upgrading your OS, as a clean install is always the right way to go.  But anyone buying a new PC right now with Vista from one of the large manufacturers is entitled to a copy of 7 come October 22nd, and I can see many folks wanting to be able to perform an in-place upgrade rather than wipe their systems and start again.

No doubt there will be plenty of pomp and bluster from the EU, Opera, and anyone who isn’t Microsoft in the coming weeks and months, but for now I’m happy that my job has been made just a little bit easier.

Ridiculous! Why should Europe need a less functional version? Good job Microsoft came to their senses. Although it is a bit confusing as to how they got there in the first place.

See my previous posts on why we were supposed to get it here :)

It’s nice that you guys across the pond can now use the same OS that we here in the mother country of all things Microsoft use !

Plus, I hear that there may be a nice ‘Browser Election Ballot’ to give the peeps in the EU a choice !

Which is kind of silly when I think about it.

This ballot is geared toward people who probably don’t know how to install a new browser in the first place, so they will most likely continue to choose IE because they don’t know what else to do. But at least they will have the choice !

Just to make things perfectly clear, we have always had the same version of Windows over here. It’s just the whole EU browser nonsense that has caused this little “blip” on Planet Windows :)
